HAMPSHIRE, Ill. — A Hampshire High School student has died following a shooting late Saturday night, and a local man has been arrested in connection with the incident, according to authorities.
At approximately 11:30 p.m. on August 16, 2025, Hampshire Police responded to reports of gunfire at a residence in the 100 block of High Street. When officers arrived, they found a 17-year-old male resident suffering from a gunshot wound. Despite emergency response efforts, the teen was pronounced dead at the scene.
Additional support was provided by the Pingree Grove Police Department, Gilberts Police Department, Kane County Sheriff’s Office, and the Kane County Major Crimes Task Force, which immediately launched a joint investigation.
Authorities say the investigation led to the arrest of Keyshaun D. Davis, 20, of Hampshire, who now faces several charges, including:
- Involuntary Manslaughter
- Endangering the Life or Health of a Child
- Reckless Discharge of a Firearm
- Possession of a Firearm Without a FOID Card
- Possession of Ammunition Without a FOID Card
Davis is currently being held in the Kane County Jail, awaiting a bond hearing. Police stressed that the charges are merely allegations and that Davis is considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
Officials described the incident as isolated and emphasized that there is no ongoing threat to the community.
The victim has been identified as 17-year-old Deegan Kirschke, a student at Hampshire High School. His death has left classmates, educators, and the broader community in mourning.
